First time? Here’s everything you’re wondering about.
I've never played backgammon — can I still come?+
Absolutely! Come at 5:30 PM for our beginner-friendly tutorial and we'll have you up to speed before the tournament starts at 6:00 PM. All skill levels are welcome.
What's the tournament format?+
Single elimination, with each match played to 5 points using the doubling cube and Crawford rule. Knocked out early? Join the consolation tournament ($10 entry) and keep playing — that guarantees you at least two games on the night. With more than 12 players we run a 3rd-place match too.
How much does it cost?+
Tournament entry is $20, and the consolation tournament is an extra $10 if you get knocked out early. Just want to learn the basics or watch a few matches? Come say hi — spectators are always welcome.
Do I need to bring my own board?+
Nope — there are always boards to play on. If you have a favorite board, though, feel free to bring it along.
How long does game night last?+
Usually 2 to 4 hours, depending on how deep you go in the bracket. Come early if you'd like — warm-up games before the tournament are always encouraged. And since we play at Denny's, you can grab dinner between matches.
